Controlling Your Nerves

Whenever you are about to go into an undertaking for something new, it is always full of excitement and unknown factors. In most cases, the object of our focus is not the excitement that comes along with it, but rather the fear of unknown that it brings along with it. Most of the time you spend contemplating about whether or not you should embark on this journey is actually spent on trying to make sense of these fears. Even though I can tell you and you may already know that it is okay to not know about what the future holds, it is still not enough to alleviate your anxiety. So, to find the answers, you dig deeper into understanding what exactly your new journey would include and more importantly, what you need to do in order to reach the final destination that you have envisioned. 

This is what happens to all of us when we wish to embark on a new journey and everyone goes through the same trepidation. Every change you want to make is with the goal to lead your life into a better direction. The purpose is always to lift yourself higher than where you currently are but, you first have to overcome this fear of unknown to convince yourself to actually go through with this change. There is nothing you can do to completely alleviate your uncertainty but putting the desired end goal and the reason for making this change into perspective can greatly help you in seeing the bigger picture.  Whenever you know a decision is right, your heart will always tell you that it is. It is okay to be scared of the future that is uncertain but you should also ask whether it is okay to give up on this chance and let your life continue the way that it is going. You should remember that time is not something that can be turned back so by continuing to stay where you are even when you are not happy for even one more day would result in you losing something that can never be returned back to you.

Don't be Overwhelmed

Once you do have your mind made up on embarking on this new adventure, you should first consider what the requirements are for you to actually reach your desired goal. As it is something that is going to improve your life, it will definitely require some extra effort from your end. You cannot expect to reach a different destination just by following the same path. When you actually sit down to think about the things that you will have to do and the sacrifices that you will have to make in order to make it all work, you can easily feel overwhelmed by all of this new information. Every part of it can be alien to your current life. This overwhelmingness can then bring back the fears you had just managed to subside by making yourself look at the bigger picture. Most people would give up on this stage when they get overwhelmed with the amount of work that it will take for them to achieve their goals. They will revert back to what their current life is instead of changing it for the better. Simply because it is easier to do give up on your dream and all the hard work that it will take than actually going through with it.

If you are reading this, I will tell you now that you are actually on the last stage of overcoming your fears and reaching your goal is just a matter of making the right decision here. Instead of letting yourself get overwhelmed and then giving up, try to get overwhelmed and take it as a challenge for you to just not give up. You just have to not give up even if it is for just today. Your thoughts should not be about how you will do all the work that it requires you to do so, but rather you should focus on just the small chunk of it that can be done today. You have to know that it is okay to not be able to do all the work as long as you don’t give up and focus on the work that you could do today. Reality is often different from our expectations so reaching your goal might even not require you to do all the work that you had initially thought of. The answer to that question will only be found if you decide to make it a reform to not give up no matter what. For easier understanding, try to think of your end goal as the next floor that you are trying to reach after going through a flight of stairs. Each day you do not give up, you take a step upwards towards reaching the next floor. If you decide to give up after first getting overwhelmed then you will always stay at the same floor. Even if you are not able to take all the steps forward to reach the next floor, each day you are steering yourself to a better direction. So, make it a test for yourself to always smile and take the overwhelming challenge head-on instead of cowering away from it. As long as you do so, I promise that you will not regret the outcome as you will always come out on the top.
